GRETCHEN BLAIS
Collage - Distant Memories - 12 x 12 - 2014:. This piece can be challenging to view the images as they tend to blend into the background, like long forgotten memories.
Collage - Inside Looking Out - 20 x 16 - 2014: Often there are periods of standing outside or beside life and just watching, waiting..
Collage - Cosmos III - 12 x 12 - 2014: This was created by a photo I took of a sunset. I created a series related to the cosmos, the ever examining collapsing universe.
Collage - Fire Bird - 12 x12 - 2014: The photograph I took from Point Richmond CA at sunset with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. The colors were breathtaking and the birds give an illusion of freedom.
Collage - Lone Tree - 16 x 20 - 2013: Nature shows up in much of my work. It provides me repose as did creating a representation of nature. The focus, a solitary tree moving in the breeze brings me quietness, a necessary ingredient for my life.
Graphite - The Stage - 9 x 12 - 2005: Life is a multi-layered stage we all play on. Even when we want to grab the curtains and slam them shut or fling them open the play goes on.
Graphite - Eye of the Storm - 21 x 16 - 2014: This is one of a series I created. If I remember, in the middle of turmoil, there is often a quiet place in my mind for reflection.
Graphite - Quake - 14 x 11 - 2015: Anticipation of "The Big One" in California or a shake up in life?
Graphite - Will We Ever Learn? - 14 x 17 - 2007: This was part of a series for a show, Women on War through NCWCA. This work was chosen as the promotional piece for the show. I kept sensing the damage and pain of war in the present and how in impacts the future. I had three pieces in the show and sold all of them.
Graphite - War and Destruction - 10 x 14 - 2007: This was pat of the series on Women and War. War impacts everyone, not just the target of the war.
Ink - The Family - 14 x 17 - 2014: When I was about through with this drawing, it was my daughter who saw our family: two parents, four daughters with the correct amount of grandchildren and great grandchildren all interconnected.
Ink - Life's Swirl - 14 x 11 - 2015: This is part of a series relating to the quake and swirl of life, of my life as some changes are happening.
Ink: Above and Below Connection - 10 x 14 - 2014: In the seemingly dark space, one can be curious.
Ink - Tree Breathing - 9 x 12 - 2013: This is part of an ongoing series on trees. Growing up, trees and nature were my refuge. I would climb a tree and wait while the world was crashing, or that is what it seemed to me at the time.
Ink - Tree Resting - 9 x 12 - 2013: Part of an ongoing series on trees. Do trees nap?
